<!-- travel - kyoto, japan -->
March 26, 2003
Dave, took me to Kyoto. This is Day One of our adventures there.

A touristy street with traditional Japanese food and crafts. |
In the middle of the city, just off the touristy street above, we happened on quiet, beautiful garden. In the background you can see the cherry blossoms that the Japanese are so fond/proud of. Would make for a nice photo if I hadn't suddenly developed a double chin. :( |
Dave and I in front of Kiyomzu-ders temple. Kiyomzu-dera, in eastern Kyoto, was founded in 798 and these are the reconstructions from 1633. |
The "Maiko" are Geisha in training. They always seem to travel with a young man. Not sure if this is their protector? |
Geisha or Maiko? Again you see her with her chaperone, who helps her up the stone steps, which must be impossible to navigate in the ridiculous wooden "high heels" they have to wear. |
