<-- my life, by webgoddesscathy --> :: Friday, December 31, 2004 :: I can't believe that I was able to live under the ignorance of world events for so long. I think it was Tuesday night when I found out about the tsunami. I was shocked. Why hadn't I heard about it? I wanted to do something. I felt ridiculous, sitting there, surrounded by my mounds of gifts. My family sitting around the woodstove, our cats dozing lazily on our laps. Then I finally got back to my email and got a message from Jodi, who's living in Indonesia. She's fine, but asking for money. Quickly, so as to pay for some supplies that were to go out on some transport they'd secured. I'd missed my window. But I still wanted to do something. Sitting on Alex's couch with his laptop, watching TV, thinking about all of Oshawa being washed away, I went to the Canadian Red Cross site and donated. Then I went to Save the Children and wanted to donate there too. But what I really wanted was to DO something. To help. I'm still thinking about donating more. You should, too. If there was ever a time when it was needed, it's now. :: Cathy 1:07 PM [+] :: 0 comments ::Comments:: |
